DEITIES

MAJOR GODS OF THE PLAINSFOLK:

RAAD, chieftain-of-the-skies
DOMAINS: Air, Good, Destruction
ALIGNMENT: Neutral good
Raad is the uber-god of most of the warriors of the planes. As Lord of the Skies, he commands the rains and the storms. His children are the four winds, sent to do his bidding on the earth and shaping the fates of the nomads that inhabit it.

Though ultimately a good god, his power is immense and he is thus associated with destruction. Most High Shaman are clerics of this deity.

URSH, the deceiver
DOMAINS: Trickery, evil, chaos
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Evil
Ursh is the archetypal trickster god: the brother of Raad, he sought greater power than that which had been ordained for him. As punishment for his deceptions he was transformed into a gigantic crow, and crows are now said to be his emblem.

Worship of this deity is frowned upon, though he has secret followers amongst all the tribes and within the empire. More commonly, his name is uttered as an expletive expressing extreme upset.

EMPALA, mother-of-the-land
DOMAINS: Animal, Plant, Earth
ALIGNMENT: True Neutral
If Raad has dominion over the skies, Empala commands the land. She is the mother of all the nature spirits and thus is worshipped by druids, spirit shaman and ordinary folk. To the settled peoples she is the goddess of fertility and is worshipped accordingly.

BOROS, guardian-of-the-dead, god of winter
DOMAINS: Death,  knowledge
ALIGNMENT: True neutral
The god of death is a dark force, but not necessarily one of evil. In partnership with his sister Empala he ensures that new life can begin from the ruins of the old. Though he is feared it is known that he must come for each man and woman.

Boros is also god of knowledge, having amassed the wisdom of every passed soul. He is consulted for guidance, but often his rituals are very dangerous and would see hi supplicants approaching a death-like state.

TEMERA, the mother-at-battle
DOMAINS: War, Protection, strength
ALIGNMENT: Neutral good
Long ago the people of the plains did not herd animals or follow the seasonal rhythms: they hunted with primitive tools and dwelt in caves. Men hunted and fought, women foraged and tended to the young. A dark shadow fell across the land and made the people its slaves. Mighty warriors went to the caves and saw that all the men were slain to quell any future uprising.

Amongst the survivors was Temera. She was a powerful woman who had hidden her only son from the warriors. She gathered the women of her tribe and rode into battle the spirit-mare Miromar. Thus was born the traditions of horsemanship and female warriors that has persisted to this day.

In her final battle with the dark horde she had no choice but to ride into battle with her child strapped to her back. She fought twice as hard, ensuring that her child was protected whilst simultaneously seeking out her enemies. Though she was slain, Raad took pity on her and placed her in the heavens as a constellation. Over the centuries she has been worshipped as a goddess, and is now one of the most popular deities amongst the warriors of the plains.
